Why it matters here

Gaston County stopped being a mill county a long time ago

The old textile buildings hold offices, apartments and breweries now. Main Street in Belmont fills up on a Tuesday. Downtown Gastonia has a ballpark and a redevelopment district. Loray Mill went from empty to occupied.

What changed underneath all of that is who lives here. Gaston County is full of attorneys, financial advisors, physicians, agency owners, contractors, and executives who either run something local or drive into Charlotte every morning and would rather not be photographed there.

If that is you, your headshot is doing more work than you think. It goes out ahead of you on LinkedIn, on proposals, on the firm bio page, in the Gaston Gazette, and in the inbox of somebody deciding whether to take your call. Nobody studies it. They glance at it and decide, in about a second, whether you look like the person they were hoping to find.

A photo taken in a parking lot in 2019 answers that question for you, and usually not the way you want.

Across the county

Where Gaston County actually works

Gaston County is not one market. It is a string of towns along the Catawba and I-85, and the people booking headshots in each of them are doing different jobs.

Belmont

The professional centre of gravity in the county now. Main Street offices, Belmont Abbey College faculty, advisors and attorneys who serve Charlotte clients from a quieter address, and a steady flow of people who moved out from Dilworth and Myers Park and kept their careers. Ten minutes from Charlotte Douglas, which matters more than people expect for anybody who travels to sell.

Gastonia

The largest employment base in the county. CaroMont Health and its regional medical center, county government and the courthouse, Gaston College nearby in Dallas, and manufacturing and logistics along Wilkinson Boulevard and I-85. Downtown has been rebuilding around the FUSE district and the ballpark, which has pulled in a newer layer of restaurant, agency, and small-practice owners.

Mount Holly

Industrial employers on the river plus a downtown that has quietly turned over into independent businesses. A lot of engineering, operations, and plant leadership here, and those are the bios that tend to be badly out of date because nobody in operations enjoys being photographed.

Cramerton and McAdenville

Small, dense, and unusually well known. McAdenville trades on Christmas Town every December and Pharr has been the anchor for generations. Both towns run on owner-operated businesses and long tenure, which is exactly the profile where one good portrait carries a whole website.

Dallas, Stanley and Lowell

Smaller, but Gaston College sits in Dallas and the professional services around these towns are real: insurance, accounting, dental and family practices, home services companies with trucks and crews. Team pages here are usually the weakest part of an otherwise decent site.

Bessemer City and Ranlo

Mostly small business and trades ownership. Usually a single owner headshot plus a crew photo rather than a full corporate shoot, and often the first professional photo the business has ever had.

Who books here

The mix in Gaston County is broader than most people expect

Roughly four groups, and they want noticeably different things out of a session.

01

Owners on Main Street

Retail, restaurants, studios, trades and service businesses where the owner is the brand and the photo has to carry warmth without looking casual.

02

Charlotte commuters

Attorneys, advisors and bankers who work uptown but would rather not shoot uptown. They want the corporate standard without the deck and the traffic.

03

Colleges and healthcare

Faculty pages, department bios, physician and provider directories, and speaking profiles that need to look current and match each other.

04

Gaston County teams

Practices, plants and firms that need everyone on the site to look like one organization instead of fifteen different phone cameras.

On location

What a Gaston County team shoot actually looks like

For four people or more, driving everyone to Charlotte stops making sense. The portable studio comes to you instead: lighting, backdrops, and a tethered monitor set up in a conference room, a training room, or any corner with about ten feet of clear wall.

Setup takes around thirty minutes before the first person sits down. After that most people are in and out in eight to ten minutes. They see their own frames on the monitor as we shoot, pick the one they want before they stand up, and go back to work.

The reason this matters is consistency. When a team books individually over eighteen months, the leadership page ends up with four lighting styles, three backgrounds and one photo from a wedding. One session on site means the whole page matches, and it stays matching when you add somebody next year because the setup is repeatable.

Half-day and full-day blocks work for most Gaston County employers. Larger groups get a scheduling sheet so nobody stands in a line.

The difference

Most studios deliver in 5 to 7 days. You will have yours in 48 hours.

Announcements, press releases and new-hire posts do not wait for a gallery. If the photo lands after the news does, it did not do its job.

Full breakdown: what you are actually paying for in a headshot.

Getting here

Studio in South Charlotte. On location across Gaston County.

The studio is at 1251 Arrow Pine Dr. C310, Charlotte, NC 28273. From downtown Belmont it is about 25 minutes: I-85 east, down I-485, and you are there. From Gastonia allow around 35 minutes, from Mount Holly around 25, from Cramerton and McAdenville around 25.

It is worth saying plainly that this is the opposite direction from uptown. There is free parking at the door, no deck to circle, no garage ticket, and no downtown traffic on either end of the session. Several Gaston County clients book here specifically because it is easier to reach than a studio in Charlotte proper.

For teams of four or more the studio travels to you instead, anywhere in the county.

Belmont, Gastonia, Mount Holly, Cramerton, McAdenville, Lowell, Dallas, Stanley, Ranlo and Bessemer City are all inside the normal on-location range.

What to bring

What to wear when you work in two worlds

I run a local business but sell into Charlotte. What do I bring?

Bring both. One look that holds up on a Charlotte firm's bio page, and one that does not feel out of place on the Chamber website or a Gaston Gazette feature. That split is the single most common wardrobe question here, and there is no reason to choose.

How many outfits total?

Two to four complete looks for a premium session, one for an express. Complete means shoes included if you want full-length frames, because the frame gets cut off at the knee otherwise.

Does a jacket make it look stiff?

Only if it fits badly. A jacket reads as authority at thumbnail size, which is where most people see you. If you own one good one, bring it even if you never wear it.

Colors, patterns and jewelry?

Solids beat patterns. Busy prints fight the face and date fast. Keep jewelry quiet, one watch and simple earrings, because anything that catches light pulls attention off your eyes.

The longer version: what to wear for a professional headshot.

Common questions

Before you book

Is there a headshot photographer in Belmont, NC?

The studio is in South Charlotte, about 25 minutes from downtown Belmont, and Belmont is one of the areas served most often. For individual sessions you come to the studio, where there is free parking at the door. For teams of four or more the full portable studio comes to your Belmont office instead.

Do you photograph teams in Gastonia?

Yes. Gastonia is inside the normal on-location range, along with Mount Holly, Cramerton, McAdenville, Lowell, Dallas, Stanley, Ranlo and Bessemer City. Half-day and full-day blocks are available, and larger groups get a scheduling sheet so nobody waits in line.

How much does a headshot cost in Gaston County?

Express LinkedIn sessions are $399 for 30 minutes and 3 retouched files. Premium executive sessions are $720 for around two hours and 10 retouched files. Corporate team rates start at $139 per person on site. There is no travel surcharge anywhere in Gaston County.

How long until I get my photos?

Fully retouched files are delivered within 48 hours. You will have already seen and approved the frames on a calibrated monitor before you leave, so there is no waiting to find out what you got.

Can you match headshots we already have?

Usually, yes. If a team already has portraits on a dark or light background, new hires can be lit and cropped to match so the leadership page stays consistent. Send the existing photos before the session and it gets set up in advance.

What if I am not photogenic?

Almost nobody thinks they are. That is what the coaching is for. Every session is shot tethered so you can see it working in real time, and there is a satisfaction guarantee behind it.

Do you charge extra to travel to Gaston County?

No. Belmont, Gastonia, Mount Holly and the surrounding towns are treated as part of the normal service area, the same as Charlotte itself.

What makes a headshot actually work?

Expression first, then light, then everything else. The full explanation is here: what separates the headshots that get you hired.

Ready to look the part?

Tethered so you see every frame as we shoot. Coached so the expression is right rather than accidental. Delivered fully retouched within 48 hours.
